What We Do

Each week a small team of volunteer editors and readers select stories and features from the Hastings Observer Group of newspapers serving Hastings, St Leonards, Battle and Rye on the day of publication.

These are read and recorded within our own studio as a local news round-up generally running to around 45 minutes in length.

In addition a general interest magazine programme of around the same length is also recorded each week and both productions are issued as a single USB Memory Stick which can be played via the special SPEAKER Unit issued free to each of our listeners. The USB sticks are then returned in the post to be used again.

The Royal Mail delivers our recordings free as a charitable donation and allows free return to HTN

Do you know anyone who might welcome our services?

Recent changes in Data Protection Laws now prevent health professionals such as GP’s or opthamologists from passing on the names or details of new patients who could potentially benefit from our service. Such a request must now come from the individual concerned - even if they may not know of our charity.

So if you - or anyone you know - would like to find out more about HTN and the ways we can help, please don’t hesitate to contact us via email, letter or telephone. And remember, although our Talking Newspaper services is primarily for the visually impaired it is also now freely available to anyone who cannot read the local news for themselves as a result of injury, illness or long term incapacity.
