Do you fancy helping HTN as a volunteer?
We have three areas where your expertise could help the blind and visually impaired people of Hastings and Rother.

As a volunteer reader...
HTN currently has 12 teams of volunteer readers – reading and recording items for either our news or our magazine programmes. Sometimes for both ! Typically their individual involvement amounts to a half day commitment, roughly once every six weeks. Although all our reading teams are currently fully staffed, please contact Lin Ireland at
volunteers@hastingstalkingnewspaper.co.ukif you’d like to placed on our reserve reader's list.

As a news or magazine editor...

'Our HTN Editors are responsible for deciding the length, content and running order of our news and magazine sound programmes. The role involves selecting and converting existing newsprint stories into script form for our readers to record.

Previous experience of script editing is not necessary - we place more value on reliability, co-operation and good humour ! Precise skills will help however as will a basic knowledge of word processing. News Editing with HTN involves about five hours commitment on a Friday morning once every six weeks. Full help and assistance - including training on an existing news team will be available from

the outset. We currently have one vacancy for a news editor. '

As a Sound Engineer....
Our Recordists - our desk engineers - supervise the technical side of our productions - and here again we welcome anyone wishing to volunteer their time to cover everything from our recording desk and studio output to USB duplication and archiving. Full training can be given on our own systems and equipment where required. Contact Brian Harvey at
 recordists@hastingstalkingnewspaper.co.ukfor further information.

(Because we often have to contact our volunteers at quite short notice a current email address is now an essential requirement for all roles.)
