Welcome to Hastings Talking Newspaper

Hastings Talking Newspaper produces a weekly recorded news and magazine programme for the visually handicapped within the Hastings and Rother area of East Sussex. As a registered charity HTN is run by volunteers and funded largely by donations to keep blind and otherwise visually disabled people aware of local news and information that is otherwise unavailable from any other media source.

Our Aims & Objectives

Since its formation in the 1980’s Hastings Talking Newspaper has evolved from a service based on the issue of tape recorded cassettes, to one that now relies on digital technology to serve our listeners. But our essential aim remains the same. Helping to keep blind and visually impaired listeners in touch with every aspect of  life in their local community.

Could you help HTN as a volunteer?

HTN currently has 12 teams of volunteer readers - who give their time amounting to an average of around one half day every six weeks. Although all our reading teams are currently fully staffed, please contact us if you’d like to placed on our reserve list.

Our HTN editors are responsible for deciding on the length and content of our sound programmes. We particularly welcome anyone with journalistic or broadcasting experience who could spare a few hours each month to act as a team leader within both our news or our magazine output.

Our Recordists supervise the technical side of our productions - and here again we welcome anyone wishing to volunteer their time to cover everything from our recording desk and studio output to USB duplication and archiving.
